First Steps - The Consultation Process
It’s been about three weeks since I got back to Singapore from Korea. And four weeks since my breast augmentation surgery at JW. Plastic Surgery . I can’t believe all this time has gone by because everything happened so quickly as soon as I landed in Singapore. There’s something about the rocket pace of life in this country that catches me off-guard whenever I’m outstation and back. Though I did release a YouTube video some weeks back documenting some of the highlights leading up to surgery day and right after, I have received quite a number of questions about the consultation process so I’ll share some information on that here.
Medical Examination & Consultation
The consultation process with JW Plastic Surgery begun long before my arrival in Korea via email where I responded to questions on my medical history and shared some of my expectations. I wanted more fullness and an increase in size that would still be proportionate to my body. The idea of having 2 watermelon sized balls on my chest wasn’t appealing to me. This is especially because I did not want to be dealing with all that extra load on the chest while exercising.
Meeting Dr Chul Hwan Seul
I had a thorough medical examination and consultation done shortly after arriving at JW. Meeting Dr Chul Hwan Seul (one of the top Board Certified Breast Plastic Surgeon in Korea) in person was pretty surreal. Think it shows on my face in the picture above. Lol. The slight jitters I had about the fact that I was actually getting plastic surgery by a Korean surgeon in a foreign country were gone as soon as Dr Seul started speaking. Like the rest of the JW staff who were guiding me through the process and protocols, Dr Seul spoke perfect English and answered every question I had patiently and with utmost professionalism. What I appreciated the most about him was his down to earth and personable nature despite his commendable accolades and reputation in the industry. Dr Seul has spoken at several international medical conferences and annually, breast specialists from around the world visit JW Plastic Surgery to learn from his techniques.
Motiva Ergonormix Implants
I had buried myself in enough research prior to this day to know that good preoperative planning and implant selection are key steps to achieving a successful outcome. After taking me through the different implant options - the implant Dr Seul recommended were the Motiva Ergonormix Silicone Implants. I happily agreed because of the gold standard reputation of the Motiva Brand thus far - it’s pretty much considered the “Rolls Royce” of breast implants for good reasons.
Motiva implants are one of the most advanced in the market with a very low capsular contracture rate (less than 1 percent) Capsular contracture is a complication where the capsule of scar tissue surrounding the implant thickens and contracts around the implant. This squeezes the implant and increases pressure on the implant. The thick capsule and increased pressure on the implant combine to make the implant feel hard and stiff. No thank you to that for sure!
Other advantages of Motiva breast implants:
They feel soft and natural.
They have a very low complication rate.·
They have a natural shape in all positions that changes and moves naturally with breast movements.
Because they are so soft (yet strong), they can be inserted through shorter incisions, resulting in shorter scars.
For enhanced natural results, Dr Seul recommended a hybrid/combination surgery using the dual plane approach and inframammary incision (smaller incision points and faster recovery period) . The combination approach includes some fat transfer to the breasts. You’ll find more details of this procedure on this link.
Perhaps one of the most exciting decisions to make for most considering breast augmentation is the implant size. While I opted for the 360cc implants after trying out different sizes in front of a mirror (You’ll find that scene at the 4.4th minute of this video) , I appreciated the fact that Dr Seul told me that the actual implant size used during the operation may still vary slightly depending on the size of my “breast pocket”. For those of you considering to go many sizes bigger, do also note that implant size should not just be determined by personal preferences but also other factors such as breast anatomy, skin thickness and elasticity as well as body type.
